The Maribor Regional Museum exhibits cultural heritage in the field of archeology, ethnology and cultural history of the region. Its construction dates back to 1476. The 16th century Renaissance bastion is now an integral part of the castle. Numerous reconstructions turned it into noble residential architecture while the Loreto chapel and a ceremonial hall were added to the main building. It features one of the most beautiful staircases in Slovenia.
The museum was founded in 1903 and currently houses several collections. An archaeological collection of finds from the region, ethnological collection with the oldest objects (wooden chests, kitchen cabinets, fireplace accessories) dating from the 18th century, weapons collection which is the largest collections in Slovenia by volume, a collection of ovens, a collection of tin soldiers with lead soldiers and flat tin soldiers, a collection of postcards from the late 19th century, a numismatic collection of coins from the Roman period, etc.

Tuesday-Saturday: 10.00 – 18.00,
Sunday: 10.00 – 14.00.
